In Other News

Saturday, 12 April 2014

I thought I'd just show you what I've been up to with a collage of some of my Instagram pictures from the last week. As you can see it's involved a lot of food. I've absolutely been making the most of being home with a full fridge, it's amazing how exciting empanadas are when your one food splurge at uni is opting for Lurpack butter over the supermarket's own brand. I've been seriously tucking into mum's cooking, she is a wonderful cook and I requested a month before I even got home that we have paella. I've also been out for breakfast with the girls and it was fab to gossip over pancakes and cappuccinos. I then went out in town the day after, oh how I had missed throwing shapes all over Rock's dance floor. I've done some shopping and had a haircut - the fringe is back. Also, shout out to my sis as it was National Sibling Day yesterday. I uploaded a cute video to Instagram of us dancing around as kids.

I've got just as much planned for the week coming. I've dubbed today my fake birthday as I'll be back at uni on the actual day, so a couple of uni friends are staying and after Prosecco and birthday cake tonight a group of us are hitting Leeds.

Hope you're all having a fabulous Easter. Let me know any exciting news!

The Little Denim Dress

Friday, 11 April 2014

I often find when I go shopping with little hope/intention of buying I stumble across my greatest finds. My mum and I bobbed into town this afternoon and browsing in Topshop I found this cute denim dress. I'd been considering a denim piece and had seen a few dresses and dungarees but wasn't completely enamored until I tried this on today and didn't ever want to take it off. The material and shape are super comfy and I'm honestly a sucker for a dress with pockets (men seem to be very pocket-lucky but what about us women with all our lipsticks, keys with a commemorative key-ring for every holiday we've ever been on, not forgetting all of those bobby-pins that we thought we'd lost and, the kitchen sink). What I love above all is the versatility of dresses like this. You can accessorise with practically any colour meaning every wear is different. Here I've kept it simple wearing my Next tan heeled platforms and favourite Betsey Johnson sunglasses but I know I can play with it all summer. The LDD has to be the LBD of summer day dresses.

Spring Fling

Sunday, 6 April 2014

It's that time of year when I'm usually moaning about having to put away my burgundy knits and Doc Martens. Whilst everyone is running towards ice cream vans for a 99 (don't be stingy on the sprinkles) I miss the days of roaring fires and faux fur. This year, however, I have fallen head over heels for pastels and find myself wanting to suddenly scatter flowers in my hair and go for picnics. These are some of my current favourite pieces. I love mixing minimalist, block pastels with a dash of floral, accessorised with some cute sunglasses. What's your Spring fling?

Back up North

Thursday, 3 April 2014

After submitting all of my coursework, spending a much deserved day at the pub, which of course included curly fries, several rounds of Ring of Fire and Presidency followed by Mosaic’s Beats and Bass night, my last ever hungover first year lecture and Chilli and Lime Chicken pizza at Firehouse with a toffee cider I was ready to make the journey back up north. My Gossip Girl box set managed to keep me entertained for the majority of my five hour train ride and as I approached Wakefield I began to get overly giddy at the prospect of being surrounded by Yorkshire accents. Apparently my accent had developed a southern twang but I think now my accent has readjusted and I’m slowly getting used to the Antarctic conditions up here.

Post-pub walk on campus last week
I spent the whole of Mother’s Day with my mum visiting family. One of my cousins has just had a beautiful baby girl so I got to meet her and I also saw my Grandma who’s sweet as pie and is still bursting into song at random intervals. Sunday evening was spent taking selfies in bed with my mum and sister, Lyd. Dad then cooked, i.e. went out and got a Chinese takeaway, and George recently bought us matching chopsticks so I tried mine out – yes, we are one of those couples that have things like matching chopsticks. It was so lovely to just be with my family and chill out. We watched The Butler which I would definitely recommend especially if, like me, you’re a sucker for a good historical feature.

I caught up with my best friend Lucie, we had lunch on Monday and she stayed here last night. It is insanely good to be back with her. I also saw my cousin Emerald and Little O (her baby Oscar) which was a cute, and actually slightly emotional afternoon. Em has asked me and Lyd to be bridesmaids at her wedding and we are all so excited it’s unreal. We spent the whole afternoon gushing about dresses and flowers. I’m just so happy for her and being able to celebrate with her as a bridesmaid is absolutely the cherry on top.

Nothing beats Mum's baking
That was just a quick catch up but seeing as I’m currently procrastinating from revision I’ll try and get into the swing of this blog thing, I promise!
