Bilbao Style Diary: Waiting for Autumn

Anyone who has been following me for a while may know that last year I wrote for Razz at university - as well as acting as Creative Director for a shoot which omg I seriously loved. I am really excited to tell you that I have a column this year entitled Bilbao Style Diary where I will explore style in Spain. The first post has just gone up and if you'd like to read it click here! I'm going to post all the outfit photos taken from that day so you can have a gander at me in Brandy Melville. Let me know what you think below! Photo cred goes to G; have a listen to him on Soundcloud.

Open Your Ganbara: Photo Diary and Vlog

Upon telling one of my colleagues that I want to work in fashion she immediately suggested I visit the flea market in Deusto. 'Open Your Ganbara' is held on the last Sunday of every month and as you walk along the river spaces of an old factory are open spilling with treasures. Ganbara translates from Basque as 'attic' which is fitting as you do feel like you could be walking around someone's attic. A fancy attic with vintage YSL and Louis Vuitton. Not everything was so pricey though and I managed to pick up a red turtle neck knit for one euro (styling post to follow)! I love wandering around markets and vintage fairs so this was quite a dream for me, It ended with an Ensalada Toscana and a coffee so how could I complain?

Food Finds: Foodoo

All on a bit of a mid-week low and wanting to comfort eat on our afternoon off Alice directed us straight to Foodoo. Preaching their calm, comfortable environment and healthy(ish) food I was excited to try something in Bilbao other than infamous pintxos. NB: Whilst I still love pintxos there's only so much of the carb loaded tapas a girl can eat. I guess the name Foodoo is supposed to allude to some kind of food voodoo magic and I have to tell you it didn't disappoint.

Tiger Home Haul

Okay so maybe my first week or two in Spain I had an excuse to buy home furnishings. 'I'm making my room more homely', I repeatedly tell myself, a MONTH in, 'it's my space and I want it to feel like mine.' Whilst valid I think it's probably time to stop...at least until payday. However, I'm finding the close proximity of Tiger a real hurdle in kicking my homeware addiction. Yes, I  said the 'A' word.

Durango Photo Diary and Vlog

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. George came to visit which made for a wonderful, wine-ful and paella-ful weekend. Saying goodbye is always crazy hard but I'm seeing him soon and I'm sure I'll be up to a lot as per. Last weekend Alice, Michael and I headed to Durango, a beautiful town not far from here. Check out my photos and catch the vlog of the weekend below.

Where is Carpe going?

Goodmorning dolls,

This is just a little post to let you know where I’m at. As you know I’ve just moved to Spain, ‘what the hell?’ I know. It’s been kind of hectic as you can imagine. I’m now onto week four and feeling settled, sort of. So sorry posts have been scarce, I’m working out a balance for everything at the moment - blogging here, for other brands, work, uni work, socialising and getting to know this beautiful place (my brain is scrambled egg).

Madrid: Photo Diary and Vlog

I can't believe that a week ago I was flying back from Madrid after a couple of days of exploring, cocktails and conferences. A highlight was definitely the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Vogue: Like a Painting exhibition, I couldn't take any photos of the work but the photography was stunning! I did, however, take a few photos of my trip and also vlogged. I want to do this throughout my Spanish adventure to remember all the fun things I did this year so let me know what you think!

Unique Boutique London: Introductions

So as some of you probably know, I mean I have banged on about it a bit, I've started blogging for online store Unique Boutique London. I will be writing weekly for them. I've already posted about the VMAs and I've just done a post introducing myself over on their Wordpress. If you're new to my Carpe Everything, or just want to know a bit more about me and my blog it would be great if you could check it out! Click here and have a read of their other posts whilst you're at it. Also, if you have any suggestions of posts you like or ones you want to see then comment because I'm sorting out a schedule now that I'm out in Spain!

As always thanks for reading.

Unique Boutique London: Who Wore What to the VMAs

I've started blogging for Unique Boutique London after I did a little review on my blog on their Black and White Co-ord. Check out their Tumblr and Wordpress account to keep up to date with the store and other goings on in the fashion and celebrity world.

This week I posted on the VMAs. Well what did we all think of Miley Cyrus? Yep. Click here to read my thoughts!

I'll keep you updated with anything else I post at UB and don't forget to check what they're posting too!

Vlogging in Amsterdam

My first proper vlog of me and Lyd's trip to Amsterdam the other week. If you also vlog link me below so I can check them out! I absolutely love watching vlogs and I'll definitely be making a few more especially as I move to Spain.

Sidenote: you do not realise how much you play with your hair/touch your face etc. until you vlog. I seem to have made a habit of poking my nose? Do you have any vlogging habits?

Paul Smith: Fashioning Britishness

Whilst scanning Netflix recently (is anyone else embarrassed by Netflix’s suggestions – I won’t confess how often the Bratz Movie is pops up) I stumbled upon a documentary called; Paul Smith Gentleman Designer. I didn’t know all that much about Smith except for the fact that he designs a lot of ties with bicycle patterns. I decided to give it a whirl and oh how quickly I fell in love.

Firstly sorry there hasn't been a lot popping up recently. I've been all over the shop travelling and trying to get over the fact that I'm moving to Spain in three weeks??

Some Bloody Exciting News

As you may or may not know as part of my language degree I'll be going abroad from October to May. I applied to work with British Council as a language assistant in a Spanish school and was very excited to be accepted and placed in the Basque Country a few months ago. Known for wine, pintxos (the region's apparently second to none tapas) and it's beautiful scenery. I was hankering to be placed in a city and I found out today that I'm moving to Bilbao!!

What's the Deal with Chia Seeds?

It’s been a while since we talked about health food fads and my What’s the Deal with Kale? post seemed to go down quite well so here I present the deal with chia seeds. I’ve been pouring chia seeds onto everything at the moment and I thought it was about time I actually found out why I so stubbornly need them on my almond milk porridge, because we all know I like to have more than one fad on my plate.

Why do we Actually Clean Make-up Brushes?

I’ll level with you; until a few months ago I hardly ever cleaned my make-up brushes. Okay never, I never cleaned them. As a bid to be good and encourage myself to look after my brushes I bought myself the Real Techniques Core Collection. They are an absolute game changer and I’m still obsessed with them months on. AND I’ve even been keeping up with cleaning them. Usually. Especially as I now know why you actually do need to clean them.

Shopping and Tapas Wearing Unique Boutique

I recently got in touch with Unique Boutique London and was lucky enough to be asked to write a review for one of their items. I was sent a cute black and white co-ord that absolutely had to come to Bristol with me for shopping and tapas.

The Body Shop: Store Restyle and Product Preview

I think the first thing I ever bought from The Body Shop was a hairbrush. It was pink and yellow with a polar bear on it and I thought it was the bomb. Fast forward about ten years I never would have believed my first blogging event would in fact be at The Body Shop store in Meadowhall, Sheffield. A look at their restyled store and a sneak peek at some new products. As I walked into the store I was greeted by the cheerful body shop staff I hoped I looked sassy, calm and like an established blogger (whatever that looks like?) but really felt quite hungover and a little nervous.

Why I Loved #KimNoFilter

Kim Kardashian a name we all know and all love to hate or hate to love. Known primarily for presenting her life to us on TV and did someone mention a sex tape? I’ve always thought it interesting that on Keeping up With the Kardashians Kim doesn’t come across as the larger than life brunette Barbie doll who takes herself nearly as seriously as Kanye that the media portray. Okay maybe she can be a slight drama queen and she has a ‘Glam Squad’ and naming her child North West didn’t exactly help her on how seriously she brands herself. Nevertheless I genuinely believe she gets a lot of stick in the press unnecessarily and she still wanders around in her pyjamas with no make-up on like we all do and that is why her recent shoot with Vogue Spain was actually pretty genius.

Pootling Around Padstow and Other Cornish News

It’s the penultimate evening of my week in Port Isaac, Cornwall. It’s so easy to forget how beautiful England is and Cornwall really makes me appreciate this. I’m currently writing with a glass of Merlot looking out to the Port Gaverne cliffs which frame the idyllic Cornish sea. The only thing that bursts my novel-written-scene is that I have The Millionaire Matchmaker on in the background but I’m a twenty first century writer and have a slight reality TV addiction.

What They Wore: Wimbledon

It’s that typically British fortnight of the summer. A glass of Pimms, maybe a spot of afternoon tea complete with strawberries and cream and a tennis match…or six hundred. I have to admit I’m not a big tennis fan. I don’t massively follow Wimbledon but you just can’t argue with the spirit that it brings. And I’m definitely not arguing with all of the chic outfits on display in the audience. Wimbledon calls for sophistication and maybe just a little summer playfulness and year after year celebrities don’t disappoint. Here are a few of my favourites from this season.

In Other News: Whitby

Last week my boyfriend George*, his mum, sister and I trundled up to Whitby, North Yorkshire seaside town, to spend some time in the sun and eat too much ice cream.

*George requested upon reading this that he be known to you as ‘Lord George’.

Just a Thought on: Style

I always find when working out my wardrobe for the season that I question the vast majority of what I own. I’ve never been great at capsule wardrobes. My wardrobe is a blizzard of different cuts and colours, of materials and patterns and different styles. And this is just a note to say that that’s okay.

Vanilla Underground: Festival Fashion

It's the season of short shorts, braided hair and festivals! I've written a festival fashion blog post for the uber cool online store Vanilla Underground. Check it out here and why not have a gander and their clothes while you're at it!

What will you be wearing to your favourite festivals this summer?

Vogue Festival: Jean Paul Gaultier

So as I talked about in a previous post (here), my sister and I went to the Vogue Festival just over a month ago. It was such a fun day and Jean Paul Gaultier’s talk was absolutely the cherry on top.

Vogue Festival: The Lowdown

Back at the end of April the Vogue Festival was held in London. It was a weekend fashion wonderland with speakers from across the industry as well as styling sessions, photoshoots and of course; a gift shop. I barely had to ask my sister to accompany me and she’d chosen her outfit.

In Other News: Post-Exam Update

Good afternoon lovelies. First I must grovel, I’m sorry I haven’t been writing much recently I had exams going on through May and obviously they had to take priority but I am back now with the whole summer ahead and lots of things to tell you! I thought I’d give you a brief update on what’s been going on in and amongst exams. My next post will be on my weekend at Vogue Festival so watch out for that in the next couple of days!

Sunday Morning: French Toast

When it comes to breakfast I´m not a culinary genius. I stick to what I like, what I know and generally what´s healthy. This usually comes in two different forms; eggs and porridge. Eggs call for their own scrapbook of recipes. I like sunny side up I like them scrambled, I really like them poached. In short eggs are great and what better way to indulge without the guilt than using them for some Sunday French Toast. And for a special occasion (it was my birthday last week) why not accompany it with a glass of prosecco? Talk about student life.

What They Wore: Kate Middleton

Whether or not you’re a monarchist you can’t deny you weren’t just that little bit curious about yesterday’s royal addition. Whilst we speculate what the new Princess shall be named we can’t help but fawn over Kate’s appearance post-labour. Although I’m quite certain it was a stalk that brought the Princess as no one can look that flawless the same day as giving birth, surely?

What's the Deal with Kale?

What did we do before Kale? What vegetable did we Instagram? Had a vegetable been featured on a sweatshirt before? (If it’s sported by BeyoncĂ© you know I’m gonna be interested). What’s the big deal with this cabbage relative?

Bristol Fashion Week: The Lowdown

Last week high street brands took to the catwalk at Bristol Fashion Week. Obviously I strutted at the chance to take get my seat by the runway. I can’t wait to tell you all about the SS15 trends that premiered but first I want to tell you a little about the experience as a whole.

Saturday Morning: Granola

I’m kind of a breakfast queen. I can’t leave the house without having had the most important meal of the day. I used to be the kind of girl who would scoff a piece of toast whilst running out of the door but breakfast has become a major part of my morning routine and I love trying new things. I recently had a go at making my own granola and can’t believe how good and simple it was.
